Anthony & Daniel SGA AMA
A short introduction to your future SGA President and VP
Hello everyone! My name is Anthony Jankoski, and I am running for SGA President with Daniel Amsini as my Vice President. I would love to be asked questions about our platform, our vision for campus, and any fun facts about myself or Daniel that you may want to know!
I am a junior here at UMBC studying English and history, and I will be headed to law school after graduation. I currently serve as SGA Treasurer, helping you all to get funding for the wonderful events you hold on campus and doing anything I can to use the school’s financial resources to benefit the student body.
The SGA should be composed of individuals who represent the entire student body. Daniel and I are both committed to tackling issues that affect student interests and satisfaction on campus. Our platform includes plans to,
· Provide students with cheaper textbooks through the UMBC Bookstore by working with independent, third-party textbook buy-back companies,
· Cut exorbitant SGA salaries in order to allocate more university funding to
initiatives that benefit every student,
· Appoint a student representative to voice safety concerns during campus closure decision meetings and improve UMBC’s inclement weather policy,
· Provide commuter students with more parking options through more expansive parking permits,
· Expand our University Health Services (UHS) programs to include 24-hour availability for emergency medical attention, as well as free pregnancy and STD tests,
· Provide more dining options in the dining hall and in the Commons, including Hallal and vegan options,
· Keep the RAC and the library open 24 hours for student convenience,
· Create policies and establish programs that encourage students to attend athletic events, including a more lenient tailgating policy,
· Request a lower student fee.
Daniel and I will work tirelessly to make these ideas a reality on campus. We will serve to bring long-needed change to our university in order to benefit the entire student body.
As SGA Treasurer, I have already begun bringing a series of beneficial changes to campus. I have made student organization funding requests a completely electronic process, saving the university thousands of dollars in resources and giving our university a more eco-friendly approach to campus life. Alongside SGA Senators Tristan Oetker and Bryan England, I fought tirelessly for a free printing initiative, which would supply students with 25 pages of free printing per semester, at the expense of cutting our own SGA stipends. This initiative, however, was unfortunately shut down by the current SGA administration due to unwillingness to cut from their own thousands of dollars in stipends. I fought dutifully against unnecessary increases in student fees posed by campus administration and other SGA representatives.
Daniel has been a highly-involved student throughout his time at UMBC. His experiences as an intramural sport “star” have provided him with first-hand experience of campus resources and their conditions. As an international student from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Daniel is familiar with the needs of students who leave their home countries to study at UMBC. He is devoted to making campus a better place for international and native students alike by working to make more on-campus resources available to those who depend on the university to provide them with academic as well as personal necessities. His experiences with campus organizations and his unique perspective as an international student undoubtedly makes him a leader empathetic to student needs.
While Daniel and I are running to be your President and Vice-President, it will be very difficult for us to create real change here on campus without the support of a full SGA team that truly cares about the student body. This is why I’ve chosen to endorse and support the following candidates who share the same vision as myself and Daniel:
Treasurer:
Tristan Oetker
VPSO:
Bryan England
Senate:
Augustus Williams
Brooke Perrin
Will Rice
Oladipupo Eke
Andres Garcia
Seth Benefield
Markya Reed
Finance Board:
