Fern Shen wrote award-winning stories for The Washington Post, Baltimore Evening Sun and Hartford Courant. Then, with newsrooms across the country cutting staff and shutting down, she struck off into uncharted territory by founding an online-only news site with reported news stories, culture and community dialogue. The Baltimore Brew has broken some big stories over the past few years, including the arrest of an Episcopal bishop for a drunken driving accident that killed a cyclist this winter.
