Just out of curouisty how do we get a motivational speaker to come to UMBC. I have been fascinated with the story of "Freeway" Rick Ross, who started the whole"Crack" game, that was started way before most of you students were even born. He's story of survival on the streets, with the CIA and the FBI, the late President Regan was in office, trailing his every move, in the meantime the CIA at the same time was bringing the one bringing drugs into the country support the war in Nicaragua, during the 1980s. Key players, General Oliver North, President Regan, and President George Bush Senior, Danilo Blandón (the cocaine drug lord from Nicaragua). He was sent to prison in 1996 and was serving 20 years to life with the parole. Luckily for him, while he was in prison, he had a lot of time to think to about the havoc he caused with the "Crack Cocaine" on the entire black community, and which he made himself to learn how to read and write. Without his knowledge of reading and writing he would not have been able to over turn his prison sentence; and in 2009, he the judge overturned his case, and he was released. He as spoke at Yale University and as well Brown University, he written a book about his life entitled Freeway Rick Ross: The Untold Autobiography
I hope that many people would be intrested enough to have him come to UMBC and have him talk about his life.. Have a Happy Snow tomorrow!
