Enough is enough! The students need to take action!
The UMBC Administration has made some questionable decisions regarding campus closure and delays within the past month. I understand that circumstances aren't ideal, but that's all the more reason that this issue be remediated as soon as possible. I just feel like it is taking too long for the campus to come to action. I want to see a serious top-down revision of the closure policy, and I want to know what the administration is doing to make campus safer.
While students here want to get a quality education, they also want to feel like they are valued. Not closing campus when the situation calls for it makes it seem like the administration just doesn't care about its students. And when it comes down to it, the administration just can't say, "We made a mistake." There always seems to be some sort of excuse, whether it be a salt shortage, lack of workers etc. I think students would be a lot more supportive if the administration could just take a shred of responsibility. Instead, they continue to "review their policies" while there are students outside falling on ice and seriously hurting themselves in the process. I have seen multiple people fall today, including a poor student that fell out of his wheelchair. How many people will have to fall before the administration gets the memo? Because personally, an alert via e-mail telling us to exercise caution just will not cut it.
I find it pretty disrespectful to both the faculty and the students that have to walk around in these conditions. The UMBC administration's lackadaisical approach to handling this situation is truly disappointing. I just want people to be able to get from point A to point B without injury, and I really don't think that's a huge ask from the students.
