Does UMBC care about non-able bodied people?
posted over 9 years ago
UMBC preaches cultural diversity, but does not seem to care about body diversity. Believe it or not, there are people on campus with physical disabilities, whether or not you can actually see them. So why is it that on my way to class this morning, as a person who has never experienced any physical disability except that one time my right wrist was sprained for like a month, I had to tread carefully to ensure I didn't slip in the layer of snow so beautifully covering the sidewalks outside of the residence halls and true grits?
(edit after original post. I'd like to just make it clear that I'm not making this post out of anger for my own safety, but because as I was on my way to class, I was trying to consider what it may be like for someone else with a body different than mine. My intention was not to use the disabled community as a selling point, but to ask if their safety is being considered.)
