On campus drive for feminine care products?
posted almost 10 years ago
How does one get something like this sanctioned? I was reading an article from The Huffington Post (I know, I know) on how homeless women are in dire need of fem care products but lack the resources. Many people don't think to donate them to shelters and to be honest I never thought of doing that until now.
Anyway, I think this would be a fantastic thing to do. I'm Staff by the way and work in the Career Center so I'm not even sure if staff are allowed to do things like this.
Anyone know?
EDIT: My email address is apjones@umbc.edu if anyone is interested further in this cause.
EDIT 2: I've made some calls to various shelters. I'm looking into giving any donations to the Baltimore Outreach Services. They serve women and children. I also like that they don't make them leave during the day like most shelters seem to do.
The woman I talked to has never heard of a Diva Cup before, but seemed intrigued by it. I think donating Diva Cups, along with pads and tampons, would be amazing.
EDIT 3 (1-22-15): Thanks for the paws and to the people who have been emailing me with interest. We're making some moves here and I'm so excited to see this get off the ground this upcoming semester. This is such an important cause and with everyone's help we can really make a difference in homeless women's lives.
