Mission: |
The International Rescue Committee(IRC)is the leading non-sectarian, voluntary agency assisting refugees worldwide. The agency, founded in 1933 at the request of Albert Einstein to assist anti-Nazi opponents of Hitler, is committed to freedom, human dignity, and self-reliance. This commitment is reflected in well-planned global emergency relief, rehabilitation, resettlement assistance and advocacy for refugees. |
|
Description: |
For 70 years, the IRC has been helping refugees who are victims of racial, religious, and ethnic persecution, as well as people uprooted by war and violence. Established in July 1999, IRC Baltimore has resettled approximately 2400 refugees in 6 counties throughout Central Maryland. IRC's case management, employment and resource development staff coordinates housing for refugees, medical screening, employment services, and English language training. |
|
History: |
IRC Baltimore is partially funded through a grant from the Office of Refugee Resettlement at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. This grant is designed to enhance the resettlement process for refugee clients by providing a "one stop shop" of accessible services through a public-private partnership with the Department of Social Services, Baltimore City Community College and Baltimore Medical Systems.
