How to be an ally to women in STEM: Speak UP!
Sexism
posted about 10 years ago
Bellow are two quotes from a recent e-mail thread on a UMBC Computer Science related group e-mail thread. One is an example of a male being sexist, the other is an example of another male speaking up.
"Seems like it should be easy enough for a woman to use."
"I'm going to take the opportunity to point out that I in no way support
your statement. Sexism, like that, intended or not, has no place on a
collegiate user group. Statements like this are part of the reason the
LUG, and CompSci in general, is such a sausage party."
I am simply posting this because some men might want to speak up, but don't know how or what to say. So, here is a real example of what to do and what not to do.
