Volunteer as a Family/Employment Mentor at the IRC!
Refugee IRC Volunteer Baltimore
posted about 10 years ago
Hello,
My name is Taylor Jenkins and I am a UMBC alumni. I thought that I would reach out to my alma mater and see if there was any interest in volunteering with the International Rescue Committee as either a Family or Employment Mentor to the diverse group refugee population we have resettled here in the Baltimore area!
Family Mentors work with newly-arrived refugee families, providing a connection to the community and individualized support as they adapt to life in the United States. A focus is placed on practicing English language skills, exploring the city, and becoming self-sufficient in the new home. A commitment of 3 hours per week for 6 months is required.
Employment Mentors work one-on-one with refugee individuals to help them overcome barriers in the employment process and prepare for their first job in the U.S. Responsibilities include providing mentees with interview practice, job leads, and job search skills training. Mentors draw from their own work experiences and receive regular support and materials from the IRC employment team. A commitment of 2 hours per week for 3-5 months is required.
I have attached an application, so if you're eager to apply, just email (address below) the completed application with a copy of your resume to me.
If any of this has caught your interest, you may e-mail me at Taylor.Jenkins@rescue.org or call (410) 558-3199 for additional information.
