Corruption in Gaming, #Gamersgate

In the last week, the internet has been in an uproar over a supposed scandal involving Zoe Quinn, developer of the indie game Depression Quest, and a number of gaming journalists from various websites such as Kotaku, Polygon, and Rockpapershotgun. Since then, various social media have been covering the situation and it has sparked a lot of debate about the gaming industry, especially game journalism. Questions of ethics, censorship, agenda-driven pieces, and gaming identity are some that I have seen.

but I'm more interested in discussing the supposed corruption, so I would like to create a thread dedicated to discussion on this topic.
I know that UMBC has an active gamer population and many of us, myself included, enjoy playing video games. I was wondering what people's thoughts are on the situation? Do you think that what Zoe Quinn and these gaming journalists are being accused of is valid? Why or why not? Do you think that it has exposed the gaming industry and journalism as corrupt? If so, what should be done, if anything?
