Construction..Nails....Flat tires...I commute.
I GOT NAILED
posted about 14 years ago
Friday, I have one class, so I decided to feed a meter on hilltop parking lot. I commute from Columbia, MD. In feeding the meter I hear a hissing noise coming from my tire as it deflated. I had to get to class so I just cursed it. My cell phone battery let me know it was ready to die as well. JOY...After class the instructor let me know campus police ext and I used the phone. The campus police offer no help..Why you may ask..they do not own a jack to help change a tire at least that was what I was informed of. Next, I call parking..I am out of quarters and wanted to inform them of the situation..The person on the other end says you should just feed the meter..again offering no help but being quite ignorant..Especially since it was Friday and 95 degrees..this was not my funnest moment. I did receive help from a fellow commuter who was walking the same direction..he allowed me to use his phone and I called AAA. He also informed me his friend just had the same problem with a nail in his tire last week. He helped him as well. A class action suit was suggested since ultimately UMBC and its Contracted Construction company are responsible for keeping the nails off the roads..Or is it someone elses job??? My triple A man noticed the nail immediately, broke my lug nut on my rim but all in all got me going. Oh an EMS man offered help as well, and he returned as AAA showed up..So you see who cares about others right...Anyone else havin trouble with flat tires or feeling like UMBC should handle things differently?
