This is a topic that seems to be brought up often. most of the time the reason is that people send emails instead of letters so as that increases then the USPS will close forever.

what they dont seem to talk about is what else goes through the USPS as well. many small businesses send things through the USPS because it is too expensive to send it anywhere else. also people do still send other things like bills and goverment documents through the USPS because it is more secure.
