Get to know Joshua Massey: Candidate for SGA Senate
A different approach to an "Ask Me Anything"
posted over 10 years ago
Hello fellow students!
My name is Joshua Massey and I am running for SGA Senate! I am currently freshman studying Computer Engineering.
I became involved in UMBC's SGA before I began my first semester. I started out as a staff member in SGA's Department of Environmental Affairs, then, through the SGA's First Year Ambassador Program, I became a First Year Ambassador to the Senate. Currently, I am a Senator in SGA.
I work on a few different of projects. Some of which I plan to continue next year:
- Improving/expanding Supplemental Instruction (SI) sessions offered by the Learning Resources Center (LRC)
- Facilitating Upgrades to the Student Organizations Space on the Second Floor of the Commons
I also plan to take on different environmental initiatives, like advocating for hand dryers instead of paper towels and more light sensors in the academic buildings, in the near future.
Also, to allow you to learn more about me, I have answered these questions. Some are very "fun facts":
1. What is your name?
- As I said previously, my name is Joshua Massey. My friends call me "Josh." If you want to be specific, my full name is "Joshua Edward Anderson Massey" - and, yes, both of my middle names are symbolic in my family ;)
2. What are some of your hobbies?
- Outside of schoolwork and my work in SGA, I work my regular job as an IT admin. I also mentor students AND help my mother out with my seven siblings (which keeps me busy, all the time)
3. What ability or skill do you most wish you had?
- Realistically? I would definitely say a photographic memory -- but one in which I actually understand material and be able to give correct answers to every question on a Comp Sci exam, instead of remembering everything that happened in American History.
- Un-realistically? I would definitely say invincibility. That would be beyond awesome. ^_^
4. Aside from food, water, and shelter, what one thing could you not go a day without?
- I am tempted to say my phone, but I have to say my laptop. It is my life. But what else can you expect from a Computer Engineering major.
5. Where do you see yourself in five years?
- In five years I hope to be enrolled in a PhD program. Hopefully, somewhere local, because I love this area.
