Vote Brian Shouse for UMBC Senate
A discussion about me and my ideas for UMBC
HI! I'm Brian Shouse and I'm running for SGA Senate. I'm a freshman majoring in History and Political Science and minoring in Philosophy. I am a Freshman Representative on the Honors College Council, and I have become involved with the Mock Trial and Debate teams here at UMBC.
My goal is to be a candidate that does more than simply make generic promises to work hard for UMBC, but to identify specific things I would like to see changed in order to make campus a better place for everyone.
Some of my main platform issues are:
1. Reform the Weather Delay/Cancellation Policy - There has been a lot of discussion at UMBC about the late notice of many delays and about several questionable calls regarding whether or not to have a delay or cancellation. Delays and cancellations should be announced in timely fashion and there should be a more transparent system for making a decision on whether to delay/cancel school.
2. More Parking - There have been days where I have been walking across campus and I see few, if any, available parking spaces. With such a huge commuter population, SGA needs to more aggressively advocate for the construction of more parking for drivers.
3. Childcare on Campus - Recently, UMBC's childcare center was closed due to unsafe mold growth, leaving many children and parents without any support. This makes it more difficult for student parents and I believe UMBC and SGA should work harder to reopen a safe childcare facility for these amazing parents.
I also support more dining options on the weekends for students who are dorming on campus, and I support a sustainable campus that reflects a respect for the integrity of the environment.
