Politics and Racism
Setting the Record Straight
It is a popular sentiment among the Left that conservatives like myself are racist bigots. Though our opponents have no evidence to support their claims, they attempt to make spurious and, often, preposterous declarations to reinforce this narrative. This can be an effective strategy, as constantly repeating it, especially when directed towards those who don’t follow political affairs, can help them tar conservatives in such a way that our electoral chances are diminished.
What they ignore is that the Left is a bastion of racism, and that basic conservative principles are inherently contradictory to any form of racial discrimination. Many conservatives are Christians, and we believe, therefore, that God endowed all humans with equal dignity. Outward physical distinctions like skin color don’t begin to change this.
Apparently, it is a sign of racism that we oppose, to name just two, Obamacare and Attorney General Eric Holder’s policies, even though conservatives have been vehemently opposed to left-wing initiatives and programs put forth by white Democrats. Can it be indicative of discrimination that we fought against Bill Clinton’s health reform, or the Dodd-Frank financial reform bill named after two white politicians.
Democrats hated George W. Bush, including black Democrats, so why weren’t they accused of racism by their comrades. The double standard is blatantly obvious.
Interestingly, there are many conservative and Republican blacks: Thomas Sowell, Herman Cain, Allen West, Mia Love, Charles Lollar, Walter Williams, Clarence Thomas, Dr. Benjamin Carson, Tim Scott, and others.
There are some concrete examples of leftist racism, however. Let’s consider them.
Louis Farrakhan: “The Jews don't like Farrakhan, so they call me Hitler. Well, that's a good name. Hitler was a very great man.”
Democratic Representative Alvin Holmes: “I think Justice Clarence Thomas on the United States Supreme Court is an Uncle Tom, a black man allowing himself to be used to carry the message of a white man, which is against the interest of black people in America. In my opinion, that’s an Uncle Tom.”
Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid: In 2010, apologized for talking about Obama’s “light-skinned” appearance and lack of a “Negro dialect.”
Democratic Washington, D.C. Mayor Marion Barry: “We’ve got to do something about these Asians coming in, opening up businesses, those dirty shops. They ought to go, I’ll just say that right now, you know. But we need African-American businesspeople to be able to take their places, too.”
Spike Lee: “I give interracial couples a look. Daggers. They get uncomfortable when they see me on the street.”
Democratic Vice President Joe Biden: “You cannot go to a 7-11 or a Dunkin’ Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent. I’m not joking.”
Democratic Senator Christopher Dodd, referring to former Ku Klux Klan recruiter and fellow Democratic Senator Robert Byrd: ““I do not think it is an exaggeration at all to say to my friend from West Virginia that he would have been a great senator at any moment.”
Democratic Senator and former Ku Klux Klan recruiter Robert Byrd: “There are white ni**ers. I’ve seen a lot of white ni**ers in my time.”
Now the facts are out. Let’s debate.
