A Sinking Situation
There's a sinkhole in the terrace!

So, just a heads up to all students and faculty of UMBC, part of the terrace is closed off due to a sinkhole. It was discovered today at 4:15 pm when a bunch of the DI participants were playing in it. Yes they were playing in it... You have no idea how surprised I was to see three little kids digging around in it and giving me puzzled looks as I nicely ask them to get out.
Anyways the sinkhole is about 3 feet deep and 3 feet wide.
It was reported a few nights ago from the HVZ group but not of that size, so there's a probability that it could have expanded and a possible chance it could continue to expand.
Most of you will say, "Isn't that a little too excessive" like the many children of the DI convention did. You're right, it is excessive but necessary. We don't know how stable the ground is in that entire area. About a while back, a pipe blew out and weakened the ground. Also we've had a lot of snow and rain in the past few months, I wouldn't be surprised if the runoff has weakened that entire campus. But with the recent influx of sinkholes happening all around the world, it's better to be safe then sorry.
This could be a one and only case. Or it could be the next Emergence Day where we get attacked by a horde of humanoid creatures living in the planet's crust... >>
Either way, stay away from area that is closed off by the yellow caution tape. It's a little silly that I have to say this, but people were still crossing and using it as a limbo pole.
Anyways, stay safe!
