Once again, can we get more notice when campus closes?

I'm not trying to cause any problems, but UMBC prides itself on being a "commuter school," yet is always the latest to inform us when campus closes. Today was no exception.
I am an off-campus student living in Baltimore City. I heard from a friend at 8:30am that a water main had broken, but there was absolutely no information about it on either UMBC.edu or myUMBC. So I did my morning routine and made it to campus for my 10:00am class. As soon as we all sat down in the classroom, we received the text that campus was closing. I mean, really? You knew the water main was broken at least an hour-and-a-half prior.
And I have it easy. It takes me about 20 minutes to get to campus on a good day. Other students live further away, have childcare considerations, and don't have the transportation freedom I do. I'm sure earlier notice would've made their day a whole lot easier.
Again, not trying to be the squeaky wheel, but a little more notice would go a long way for a lot of us.
