A Word Problem
Of Romantic Intrigue

Hello everyone. I come here to run a hypothetical scenario. It goes as follows:
David is a 20 year old computer science major who enjoys intellectual pursuits and espousing chivalry. He is single and looking for a date.
David is a 20 year old computer science major who enjoys intellectual pursuits and espousing chivalry. He is single and looking for a date.
Becky is a 19 year old biology major who wants to become a doctor and start a family.
Mark is a 21 year old political science major who recently broke up with Becky for someone more conventionally attractive.
Becky misses Mark, but knows that it's over between them. She meets David in a math class and finds out they have similar interests. David instantly becomes interested in Becky romantically and starts spending time with her, doting on her and not criticizing her whenever she says something he disagrees with. He adjusts his mannerisms to be more accommodating.
After a month, Becky sees David as a friend and lets him know as such. David wishes to be more, but doesn't say anything until a month later.
At this point, David confesses his feelings for her and gets rebuffed. Becky tells him that she simply doesn't find him romantically attractive. David feels as though he's been "Friendzoned" and announces it to Becky.

Becky tells him he's being unfair and David feels that it's Becky who is unfair due to wasting his time. He tells her to call him if she wants a date and stops going out of his way to see her.
Becky feels hurt because she lost a friend, David feels angry because he feels rejected for all his efforts and Mark feels great since he won the lottery and is planning a sweet party to celebrate.
