Regarding meeting new people

Hey all, I hope everyone is doing well.
I was thinking about how few friends I have at UMBC.
Don't get me wrong, I have plenty of friends from high school, and from my previous school (Stevenson). But when I came to umbc I had to come as a commuter, and it really seems to affect things socially. For example, I find it hard to just hang out on campus, especially without having a meal plan or a dorm to chill in.
I guess my point here, is that I'm asking whether anyone else has experienced the same feelings? Or, to expand to a broader level, has anyone else thought about how in our society we rely so much on our social media networks that we find it hard to branch and meet people new? I certainly would say yes to that.
