So this is the status that I posted on Facebook earlier this morning. I can strongly say that the UMBC population agrees with me due to the fact that my status already has 120 likes and it's still steadily increasing. I hope that by posting this and getting enough paws, we can take this to the higher-up to get something changed to better insure the safety of ALL UMBC students, especially those with any sort of disability that hinders them from safely getting to class in these circumstances.
So here it is:
So I am not normally one to posts statuses like this. Ever. But I really needed to share my two cents. I just spent the past 25 minutes helping a nice young man in a wheel chair navigate from the Walker Ave Apartments to the Fine Arts building. I saw him struggling and swerving on the sidewalk and offered to help immediately because there was no way he could have safely arrived to his class on his own with these conditions. It was probably the most un-safe and difficult thing that either one of us have ever done because every single path was covered in snow and ice... Needless to say, UMBC should definitely have reconsidered their choice to open the school campus today, ESPECIALLY considering how unsafe the sidewalks and handicap entrances are. They should have taken THAT into consideration...Come on, UMBC....
