Copies of The Diary of Anne Frank vandalized in Japan
How could anti-semitism reach a peaceful country like Japan?

Recently I read a news article about how some people had torn out pages of many copies of Anne Frank's Diary of A Young Girl. What struck me most about this was that this had happened in Japan, particularly in Tokyo libraries. Japanese Authorities believe that this was some sort of Anti-Semitism protest. I have provided an article if you want more info. The main reason I want to discuss this topic because it makes the reader think many questions such as: Why The Diary of Anne Frank? Why in Japan? Why now? I want to generally know your thoughts and Ideas on this article.
My stand is that this article makes me think about how even in countries like Japan, which has a very small Jewish population, that anti-Semitism still exists. Its awful and I'm happy that most Japanese citizens are outraged and saddened by this awful act.
Why are your thoughts on this situation?
Update: The Israeli Embassy in Japan has donated 300 new copies of The Diary of Anne Frank to Tokyo libraries to replace the copies that were vandalized! Yay! :)
