So earlier this semester, I misplaced my Red UMBC ID (for the first time in four years) and had to go to Card Services in the UC to get a replacement one just so that I could eat on campus. What sucks is that I later found my original one hiding somewhere in my room but I still got charged 30 bucks for a new one! So now I basically have a useless Red ID laying around since Card Services can't reprogram my old ID or offer me a refund for the new one. 

I remember one time, I returned an overdue book to the Library and they expunged the late fee for the first time and let me off with a "don't let it happen again". So this got me thinking, if the Library has an amnesty program for certain fees, how come Card Services can't ? I mean, I know we're adults here but expecting college students to hold on to a single card for 4-5 years without ever losing it is kind of strict. Most banks I know either don't charge (or have a low fee of ~$5) for a replacement debit card. I find it VERY hard to believe that a piece of plastic and/or administration fees costs the University 30 bucks!
