Sweden Closes Four Prisons
US Prison Population continues to rise

It appears that Sweden has closed 4 prisons because they're unable to keep them full. In Sweden, they tend not to cage someone for long periods of time for minor offenses like the US does. I'm sure everyone is aware that the USA is number one in prison population and incarceration rates in the world, easily destroying China. I know in the US, there are over 3,000 people serving life sentences for minor, non-violent offenses. In Sweden they do this thing called rehabilitation, which is an entirely foreign concept in the US.
The US prison system is, more or less, a business. I believe private prisons earn 30 to 40 thousand dollars per prisoner, per year. Money is to be made off of caging people for trivial reasons in the US. I don't believe having the highest prisoner population in the world is something to be proud of.
