Welcome to Week 4 of Tabletop Gaming Club!

We are very excited to see you at club this week! Especially if you are looking to shake off some of the stress of midterms. In this time of study and agony, why not take a break and play a game or two? 

This week we have the final installment in our Make-your-own-Board-Game event. It will take place on Friday March 7th in ILSB 116A from 6-8 pm. At this event, we will be playtesting the games that have been prototyped last week. And the best games from this Friday will have the opportunity to be professionally manufactured by Commonvision!! We look forward to seeing you there.

Lastly, this week in TTRPGs, be on the lookout for one-shots! Coming up soon, but not quite yet, I have been coerced into running a 12-person one shot, and this will probably take place on an upcoming Tuesday in club... If you are interested, please say so in the TTRPG-general channel. 

We also have March Madness starting this week! For the month of March, players will have the opportunity to form teams and play games chosen from week-to-week against other teams for points. The team with the highest points at the end of the month gets first pick at a table of prizes!

Advances in generative artificial intelligence (Gen AI) have complicated our efforts to foster and maintain academic integrity in instruction at UMBC. The FDC recently hosted a session entitled Encouraging Academic Integrity in the Era of AI to revisit best practices in course/assignment design; learn how to make policies around Gen AI use clear; and share strategies for dissuading students from inappropriate use of gen AI in light of the opportunities and temptations they present. Some of these ideas were also discussed in our Fall 2024 book discussions on Teaching with AI by Bowen and Watson. We heard that many of you were interested but unable to attend. Therefore, we've captured highlights from those shared at the session in our latest tipsheet.

Generative AI is fundamentally challenging higher education. The rapid evolution of tools like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude confronts us with urgent questions: How do we understand and use these tools?  How might we integrate these technologies effectively?  Where do we set the academic and ethical boundaries for their use?  This presentation explores the current generative AI landscape offering practical insights for educators and institutions. The goal is to outline a pragmatic, forward-looking approach to AI literacy that empowers both faculty and students.
