Nailah-Benã Chambers (incoming freshman Humanities scholar) and Angel Rather, were honored for their work in Powhatan, Virginia. They started the Diverse Hands at Work Club in their junior year and made a big push as seniors to encourage inclusiveness through seminars, field trips, student forums, and the International Diversity Fair held at the school.
This school year, the Diverse Hands at Work Club and the National Arts Honor Society embarked on a new multimedia project called the Powhatan Community Makers. The goal was to honor several nominees who have made a difference in the community with special portraits and interviews spearheaded by students, said Melissa Glanden, librarian at the high school.
Chambers was chosen along with Rather to be honored for their work in Powhatan.
The project was inspired by Richmond artist Hamilton Glass, who worked with the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and created a portable mural project of advocates in the Richmond community, Glanden said. The students involved in the project visited the VMFA to see Glass’ RVA Community Makers project and then created their own version for Powhatan High School.

Amenities include fully furnished kitchen, washer, dryer, central AC, refrigerator and closets.
The townhouse is located close to UMBC and MTA bus stops and a couple of grocery stores and restaurants.

I’m looking for two roommates for a 4 bedroom and 2.5 bathroom townhouse on Linden Ave near UMBC campus (2 mins walk)
*House details:*
The house was recently remodeled and is fully furnished. It has central air-conditioning/heating. There is street parking available. Excellent natural light in the house. It has in-unit washer and dryer and kitchen has a dishwasher. Ample storage space.
*Room details*: The master-bedroom is on the lower level of the house. It has a private bathroom and some space outside to setup a coffee/dining table. It comes with the following furniture:
- Two big closets.
- Bed(s)
- Study table
- Nightstand(s)
- Dresser
- Mini-fridge
*Price details:* The total rent for the master bedroom is $850 per month plus the utilities. The total security deposit is $850. Rough utilities cost (per month per person): $40-$50. The room can be rented by two people, in which case the rent will be $900 ($450 per person).
*Location details*: The apartment is 2 min walking distance to the UMBC campus and is on the UMBC shuttle route. It has grocery stores in the block. The neighborhood is pretty quiet and safe.
