    <p><strong><em>Facilities Management</em></strong> has the following Summer 2019 construction update:</p>
    <p>Over the summer numerous construction projects will be taking place on campus, which may impact pedestrian pathways, building access points, roadways and some parking areas. As always, follow directional signage at the construction sites to navigate around these minor disruptions safely and effectively. For additional information please see the current <span><a href="https://fm.umbc.edu/files/2019/04/UMBC_2019_Campus_Construction_ActivityE1.pdf" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">construction activity map</a></span> for information pertaining to the construction on campus and the <a href="https://umbc.box.com/s/tisl1x65ye6aj5dwencpfu7g6et2rkbf" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">summer 2019 accessible routes map</a> for the location of temporary accessible routes where applicable.<br></p>
    <p>Maintaining accessibility is part of the design and construction process. We work in partnership with Accessibility and Disability Services which supports faculty, staff, students and visitors with disabilities. <Title>Madeline Arbutus summer internship</Title>

    <span>Madeline Arbutus received </span><span>Student Internship &amp; Service funding from the UMBC Career Center, for an </span><span>internship at </span><span>The Liriodendron, </span><span>an historical 1890s mansion in Bel Air, Maryland. </span><div><span><br></span></div>
    <div>
    <span>The mansion belonged to Dr. Howard Kelly, one of the four founding physicians of the Johns Hopkins Medical College. In the 1980s, the estate was gifted to Harford County and the Liriodendron Foundation was established to preserve the grounds and celebrate its history. The Liriodendron is now a popular wedding venue and a thriving cultural center that features local artists in the art gallery and engages the nearby community through rotating museum exhibits, artist circles and discussions, live music series, and mansion tours. </span><div>
    <br><div><span><div>In addition to directing visitors around the mansion and sharing historical facts with them about the former owner and the Palladian architecture, Madeline will be working under the site manager to design creative flyers for upcoming events, revamp their social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter), and assist with administrative paperwork. </div></span></div>

    <p><strong>A message from the UMBC Police</strong></p>
    
    <p><span>On Thursday May 23<span>rd</span></span><span>  UMBC will hold spring commencement for undergraduate
    students at the Event Center. Extensive planning has taken
    place for this special day with many departments and stakeholders. </span></p>
    
    <p><span>Two commencements will take place
    that day, one beginning at 10:00 a.m. and a second one beginning at 4:00
    p.m.  We are expecting <strong><u>extremely </u></strong>heavy traffic
    between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m coming onto campus and then from 11:30 a.m. to
    1:30 p.m. exiting campus.  For the second commencement expect heavy
    traffic between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. coming onto campus and then from 5:30
    p.m. to 7:30 p.m. exiting campus.  Please avoid travelling to and from
    campus during these hours and/or use alternative entrances and exits to campus
    (see below).  </span><strong> </strong>Alternative work arrangements or schedules may
    be offered to employees at the discretion of the supervisor in order to avoid
    high traffic periods.  All campus offices will remain open and services
    will continue to be offered.   <span> </span></p>
    
    <p><span>Graduates please share this
    information with your friends and family members attending the graduation.</span></p>

    <p><strong><u><span>FROM POINTS WEST</span></u></strong></p>
    
    <p><span>Take 695 east to MD-372 Wilkins
    Avenue (exit 12C-B).  Continue on Wilkins Avenue to a left on Walker
    Avenue then left on Hilltop Circle.</span></p>

    <p><strong><u><span>FROM POINTS NORTH</span></u></strong></p>
    
    <p><span>Take 95 South to 695 West. 
    Exit at MD-372 Wilkins Avenue (exit 12C-B).  Continue on Wilkins Avenue to
    a left on Walker Avenue then left on Hilltop Circle.</span></p>
    
    <p><strong> </strong></p>
    
    <p><strong><u><span>FROM POINTS EAST</span></u></strong></p>
    
    <p><span>Take 695 West.  Exit at

    towards the park and ride and North Rolling Road.  Make a right at North
    Rolling Road and then a right onto Wilkins Avenue.  At roundabout make a
    right onto Hilltop Road.  </span></p>
