The museum Cabinetmaker/Preparator constructs all casework and display elements for permanent and temporary exhibition related projects. They assist the exhibitions team with all casework and display installation/deinstallation and assists other divisions/departments with non-exhibition projects when necessary.

English Honors Student Selected for Undergrad Research Award
English Honors student Anna Hartman has been selected for a 2019 Undergraduate Research Award. Her project, "Rhetoric of Uprising: Press Discourse of Maryland Race Uprisings from 1845-2015,” is a digital exhibition that Anna is completing for her Honors thesis. Anna will collect, curate and annotate primary sources from three uprisings in Maryland that center African Americans’ resistance to state-sanctioned violence: an 1845 uprising of enslaved people in southern Maryland; the 1968 Holy Week uprisings following the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.; and the 2015 uprisings in response to the death of Freddie Gray. Anna will use her award to conduct archival research at the Maryland Historical Society, Library of Congress, and other regional archives and to purchase a web platform for her digital exhibition. The undergraduate mentors get to learn the art of creating professional relationships, patience, and learn about other areas of studies, apply the lessons they've learned and learn from other undergraduates with the same obstacles as them.
In the four years of the program, UMBC student mentors have raved about the inspiring experience they got out of REACH
We have had at least 2 high school mentees that came back to UMBC as undergraduates because they fell in love with the campus. We have worked with 10 Baltimore city schools in the past few years and UMBC has gained recognition by many educators because of that. The program has gone from only having 3 high school students in 2015 to having 15 in 2018. By applying, you will also be able to be a part of this great cause and be able to be a part of the REACH family!
