The letter included the phrases: “carpet-munching dyke,” “burn in hell,” “you say you’re gay but we know you’ve never fucked a guy… so we’re gonna fuck you till you’re straight,” concluding with the statement, “I know you want it.”

The student notified Public Safety and an investigation is under way. She also received support from their Commons Dean, Professors, and other members of the Middlebury community. However, the student expressed that other than informing Public Safety, none of the people notified knew what further actions to take. No one knew how to answer the question she had: how should students be notified of this incident, if and when she chose to share her story.

Read more by clicking "Visit Website" below.

Investigating forms of military surveillance, espionage, war-making, and weaponry, Farocki and Paglen each examine the deceptive and clandestine ways in which military projects have deeply transformed, and politicized, our relationship to images and the realities they seem to represent. The exhibition initiates critical questions about the crucial part images play in revealing essential but largely concealed information, and places the oeuvres of Harun Farocki and Trevor Paglen within the broader cultural and historical developments of the media they are creatively working with, namely photography, film, and new media.

Admission to the exhibition is free. The Center for Art, Design and Visual Culture is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm and is located in the Fine Arts Building.
Meet a DEI: Saniya Chaudhry

Bio:

Saniya Chaudhry is a current sophomore studying Biology. She plans on graduating UMBC and entering pharmacy school and getting her PharmD, possibly do a residency after. In addition to being a DEI, she is a certified pharmacy technician, and events coordinator of the Pre Pharmacy Society. She enjoys spending time with her family, sleeping, singing, listening to music, and eating. She loves to learn new things and is a very curious person. This year, she hopes to open people’s hearts and minds and gain knowledge as well.

Q. What made you get involved with The Mosaic Center as a Diversity Educator Intern?

I wanted to try something new and learn about different people's perspectives on issues.

Q. What might someone be surprised to know about you?

When I was little, I invented another planet called Weird-O-World and used to go around giving speeches about how awesome it was.....I was a strange kid. Also, I am a shopaholic.

Q. When you aren’t performing DEI duties, what are you most likely doing?

I am most likely in class, at work, listening to music, eating, or sleeping. That sums up my life.

Q. How would (someone) describe you?

Someone close to me would describe me as hard working, and caring (I hope).

Q. What do you wish other people knew about The Mosaic Center?

It is a public space, you can come in and eat lunch, do homework or just relax.

Q. What would you say are some of your strongest beliefs about diversity?

Diversity is something to be proud of, that a bunch of people with different beliefs or even appearances can live and cooperate with each other.

Q. What's your personal philosophy on what should be done about promoting communal diversity and inclusion?

It should be our duty as human beings to make others feel a part of the community and respect who they are, and try not to change them. Everyone has something to offer.
