USAID and The Palladium Group are collaborating to offer two USAID Legacy Fellowships in memory of our beloved friend and colleague Anita Datar, who was tragically killed while on duty in Mali in November 2015. Ms. Datar had devoted much of the past 10 years pursuing global public health, particularly family planning and HIV prevention and response.
The unpaid 10-week fellowship is designed to provide fellows with practical and professional experiences in fields related to the work of USAID in one of its global offices. The Palladium Group will pay for transportation to and from the fellowship location. Palladium staff will also act as advisors to the fellows and contribute to program guidance. Content and location of the fellowships will be determined by USAID following selection of the fellows.

Students will have the opportunity to learn about dressing professionally and will then be able to select one free outfit to use in their job search. We are asking staff and faculty to donate new and gently used professional clothing at collection bins around campus from February 26th - March 8th.
Starting February 26th, Professional Clothing can be dropped off at the following on-campus locations:
- Career Center, Math/Psych 201: 8:30 am – 5 pm (Mon-Fri)
- The Mosaic Center, The Commons 2B23: 10 am- 7 pm (Mon- Thur), 10 am- 5 pm (Fri)
- Residential Life Office, Erickson Hall: 8:30 am – 4:30 pm (Mon-Fri)
- The Shriver Center, Public Policy Building 1st Floor: 8:30 am – 5 pm (Mon-Fri)

Items that will be accepted: dresses, shell tops, button-up shirts and blouses, skirts, blazers, dress pants, garment bags, belts, ties, skirt suits and suits.
Items that will NOT be accepted: jewelry, handbags, shoes, and general accessories.

BEYA STEM Career Fair & Conference
With the start of the spring semester, comes the stress and anxiety of what you're going to do after you graduate. "Real life" is fast approaching and there's a lot of pressure on students to find a job quickly and immediately after graduating.
Being proactive in your job search and applying to jobs now is the most practical way of taking control of your future. One of the best way to start the job search process is by attending a variety of career fairs.
These career fairs are specifically geared towards helping you find jobs with employers who are looking to hire. UMBC has it's Spring Career and Internship Fair coming up later this month, but there are also career fairs meant for students held off campus!
The BEYA Stem Conference is a career fair tailored towards those receiving degrees in the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics disciplines. For three days, the Conference brings together students and potential employers looking to hire. Graduate school admissions reps will also at the Conference. You are not required to attend all three days.
The event is open to all students!
It will take place on Saturday, February 11, from 10 AM to 4 PM at the Washington Marriott Wardman Park.
The Conference is the perfect place for you to find a job and learn about graduate school, but also help you develop your networking skills. Making connections in the job market is extremely important. The more you do to create and foster these connections, the more likely it is that you'll find a valuable experience with people who know you.

Maryland Sea Grant Summer Research Internship
Ocean, Coastal & Environmental Science in the Chesapeake Bay
Are you looking for a summer research internship studying ocean, coastal or environmental science? I invite you to check out the Maryland Sea Grant Summer REU program. We bring upper-level undergraduate students to the
Chesapeake Bay to conduct individual research projects with a scientist-mentor at the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science.
During this 12-week program (May 21–August 13), each student will work with a science mentor on an individual research project at one of two marine labs located on Chesapeake Bay: the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science’s* (UMCES) Chesapeake Biological Laboratory in Solomons, Maryland, or its Horn Point Laboratory in Cambridge, Maryland.
Research Areas Include:
- benthic environment
- climate change
- coastal observing systems
- environmental chemistry
- environmental contaminants
- estuarine processes
- fisheries
- modeling and analysis
- molecular biology and genetics
- physical oceanography
- submerged aquatic vegetation
The Maryland Sea Grant Program, with support from the National Science Foundation, will provide each fellow with a stipend of $6,000, housing costs and round-trip travel expenses

The Urban Conservation and Education Internship is a work-study program in partnership with the National Aquarium, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Living Classrooms Foundation and the Maryland Port Administration. This internship not only promotes career development and connects those interested to career opportunities within the conservation sector, but is also helps foster a sense of environmental stewardship.
Interns will learn about the importance of conservation throughout the Chesapeake Bay region by working with staff
from the National Aquarium, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Living Classrooms Foundation and the Maryland Port
Administration. Over the course of the program, interns will participate in habitat restoration projects, assist in the
monitoring of wildlife populations and engage diverse audiences in hands-on environmental education programs.
This eight-week internship will take place from June 5 to July 28, 2017. Typical work days are Monday through Friday, but some Saturdays may be required.
The internship is based out of the Masonville Cove campus, but work sites will not always be on campus. Transportation is provided from Masonville Cove to work sites in the greater Baltimore region.
This is an interdisciplinary program. Students of all majors are encouraged to apply.
