    <div class="html-content"><div><div>Happy March everyone! The signs of spring are already showing up in our natural environment! (Spring Equinox=March 20th)</div><div><br></div><div>In March,  many of our learning experiences focus on building and maintaining professional relationships.  We offer curated sessions on team building, relationship building and mentoring, as well as our own session on the <strong>Performance Management Process for Supervisors</strong>. </div><div><br></div><div><strong>March Training Calendar</strong></div><div>Attached is a PDF of our March Training Opportunities. This PDF has links to register for each of the events listed. We look forward to seeing you at many of these events to engage you in our community of learning.</div><div>A few events of particular note in our March calendar are: </div><div><br></div><div>March is <strong>Women’s History Month</strong>! The USM Women’s Forum is hosting a webinar on March 15th entitled <strong><a href="https://my3.my.umbc.edu/groups/training/events/116053" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">The Power of Mentoring</a></strong>. This exciting panel discussion of women leaders explore the effect of mentoring and career development. </div><div><br></div><div>Current events led to many requests for <strong>Active Assailant Preparedness Training</strong>. We have two sessions scheduled, one on <a href="https://my3.my.umbc.edu/groups/training/events/115874" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">March 6th</a> and one on <a href="https://my3.my.umbc.edu/groups/training/events/115875" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">March 15th</a> with John Schaible, UMBC’s Emergency Manager. The <a href="https://my3.my.umbc.edu/groups/calt/events" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Faculty Development Center</a> has two sessions planned as well. Please register for only one session as the presentation will be the same for all sessions. As seats fill, we will assess if more sessions are needed. </div><div><br></div><div>We have revamped our PMP Training for Supervisors and are holding our second session on <a href="https://my3.my.umbc.edu/groups/training/events/113388" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">March 14th</a> with Michale S. Tallon, Director of Employee/Labor Relations. If you are a new supervisor looking for training in anticipation of giving your first PMP, or a seasoned manager looking for a refresher, this is the training for you! If the session is full, please reach out to <a href="hrtraining@umbc.edu" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">hrtraining@umbc.edu</a> and we will let you know when more sessions are scheduled. </div><div><br></div><div>Looking ahead to April, our focus on preparing supervisors and staff for the performance management process continues with curated webinars on <a href="https://my3.my.umbc.edu/groups/training/events/114446" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Strategies &amp; Tactics to Navigate Difficult Conversations</a> on April 5th and <a href="https://my3.my.umbc.edu/groups/training/events/114449" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Workplace Wellness that Works for Everyone</a> on April 12th. April is also <strong>Stress Awareness Month</strong>. We will be offering a series on Stress Awareness and strategies to identify, manage, and overcome stress in our work and home lives.     <div class="html-content"><div><div><div><div><span><p><span>On March 1-2, 2023, we call upon Retrievers everywhere to join us for </span><a href="http://blackandgoldrush.umbc.edu/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><span>Black &amp; Gold Rush, 36 Hours of Giving</span></a><span>, by making a gift of any size to support any area that means the most to you. Our goal this year is ambitious -- 3,000 donors in 36 hours -- and every donation helps UMBC provide students with the tools they need to become leaders and to reach their full potential.</span></p><p><span><strong>Retriever Integrated Health - </strong>Your gift helps support programs that help students, faculty, and staff to respond to student mental health needs, and programs to support student health and well-being. </span><span><em><strong>Please write in UHS and Counseling on the donation form. Here are a few of the ways you can support students:</span></p><div><span><p><span><strong>Other Funds that Support Health and Well-Being </strong></span></p><p><span><strong>Peer Health Educators - </strong>Your gift helps support an internship program for undergraduate and graduate students to become nationally certified in health-related topics and provide programs for the UMBC community, especially students</span><span><strong>. </strong><em><strong>Please write in Health Promotion on the donation form.</strong></em></span></p><p><strong><span>Retriever Essentials -</span></strong><span>Your gift helps eliminate the burden of food insecurity for UMBC members and connects them to ongoing support networks, in order to enhance their academic retention and career success. </span></p><p><span><strong>Stay Black and Gold Emergency Fund -</strong> Your gift helps provide short-term financial assistance (tuition and fees) for current UMBC students who find it difficult or impossible to continue their education due to an emergency or sudden unforeseen circumstances. </span></p><p><span><strong>Funds that Help Build Community</strong></span></p><p><span><strong>Campus Life Student Organizations- </strong>Your gift will help provide opportunities to promote student engagement through club and organization development and student leadership training. </span></p><p><span><strong>Center for Democracy and Civic Life - </strong>Your gift will support students' participation in experiences that empower them to be effective and collaborative leaders and changemakers in their communities. These experiences include </span><a href="https://civiclife.umbc.edu/learning-engagement/strive/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><span>STRiVE</span></a> and <a href="https://civiclife.umbc.edu/learning-engagement/asb/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><span>Alternative Spring Break</span></a><span>.</span></p><p><span><strong>Initiatives for Identity, Inclusion, and Belonging (i3b) -</strong> In addition to supporting students finding belonging in identity-based spaces across campus, your gift will fund programs that help students develop the skills needed to dialogue across differences and become more equitable and inclusive community leaders. When you give to the i3b fund, you support programs like Interact Dialogues Program, Your Story Belongs Here programming, and annual graduation celebrations like the Lavender Graduation &amp; Scholarship and the Multicultural Graduation Celebration.</span><span>Individuals can also specifically support LGBTQ Outreach support and programming by giving to the LGBTQ Outreach fund.</span></p><div><span><br></span></div></span></div></span></div></div></div></div><div><h3>Comments</h3></div></div>

    <div class="html-content"><div>Helping to spread the word for one of our colleagues in the JEDI program:</div><div><br></div><div>Neurodiversity at Work is hosting their annual conference this March. We would love for you all to join us and share the information below with your partners. </div><div><br></div><div>Join the collaborative conference that brings together employers, stakeholders and policymakers who are committed to improving employment outcomes for the neurodiverse workforce. </div><div><br></div><div>Through collective impact, we will engage in dynamic discussions, learn from expert presenters, and build a network of change-makers who utilize diverse and inclusive employment practices.     in-person group incorporating information, skills: tips/tricks/hacks, and a

    anyone wondering if you are neurodivergent or if you have been diagnosed as
    neurodivergent (ADHD, processing disorders, autism, and more). We will learn
    about common myths and stereotypes, burnout (how to prevent and address it),
    and self-advocacy.</span></p><p><u>Day

    <div class="html-content"><div>Happy American Heart Health Month and the start of a new semester! </div><div><br></div><div>In February, our wellness initiative is focused on heart health and we offer a Cardio 101 class with Alea Burke in the RAC for all ages and life stages.  We continue our Work-Life Wellbeing series with a custom built program on Discovering Your Work-Life Balance based on focus group feedback. We also continue our Communication series with Active Listening, a session in collaboration with Bowie State. </div><div><br></div><div><strong>February Training Calendar</strong></div><div>Attached is a PDF of our February Training Opportunities. This PDF has links to register for each of the events listed. We look forward to seeing you at many of these events to engage you in our community of learning.</div><div>A few events of particular note in our February calendar are: </div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div>We continue our series on <strong>Work-Life Wellbeing</strong>. Throughout the spring, we will have one event per month that will focus on the balance we all strive to hold between our work lives and our home lives. February will focus on that integration of the two facets of our lives with <a href="https://my3.my.umbc.edu/groups/training/events/112563" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Work-Life Wellbeing: Discovering Your Work-Life Balance</a>.  This is an experiential 3-hour session that moves the participant from abstract to creating an individualized plan of action. </div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div>We have revamped our <strong>PMP Training for Supervisors</strong> and are rolling out sessions on both <a href="https://my3.my.umbc.edu/groups/training/events/112645" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">February 16th</a> and <a href="https://my3.my.umbc.edu/groups/training/events/113388" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">March 14th</a> with Michale S. Tallon, Director of Employee/Labor Relations. If you are a new supervisor looking for training in anticipation of giving your first PMP, or a seasoned manager looking for a refresher, this is the training for you!</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div>Also in February, we will continue our series on communication skills with <strong><a href="https://my3.my.umbc.edu/groups/training/events/113599" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Active Listening</a></strong>.     <span>Group (Virtual, Spring Semester)</span></span></strong></a><span> </span><span>Pursuing a graduate degree/Ph.D. can be one of the most
    challenging phases in an individual's academic career. The road to earning the
    diploma can be long and lonely. The Graduate Student support group is composed
    of graduate/Ph.D. students who want to come together to share the challenges
    and struggles of their academic experience. The group will focus on discussing
    ways to balance school &amp; personal life, relationships with advisers and
    peers, and how to deal with the stress and anxiety of academic pressures while
    defining and pursuing career goals.</span><span></span></p>
    
    <p><span> </span></p><p><u>Day and Time</u><span>: Thursdays 3 PM-4:15 PM
    (Starting March 2nd</span><span>)</span></p><p><span><br></span></p><p><span>The

    Training in the Affective (Application) of Interpersonal Regulation (STAIR) (In-Person, six
    weeks) </span></strong><span>Originally created for veterans, this program helps persons who struggle
    with relationship dynamics and emotion regulation. High-stress experiences
    overwhelm the emotional system, creating both emotional chaos and numbing,
    undermining our ability to think and act effectively, and disturbing our sense
    of self and relationships. The skills training and practice introduced in this
    program are designed to help you leave behind old patterns and develop new
    interpersonal behaviors and emotion management skills more consistent with your
    current life goals. </span></p><p><span><br></span></p><p><span>(1</span><sup>st</sup><span> round) </span><u>Day
    &amp; Time</u><span>: Tuesdays, 3 PM-4:30 PM (Six weeks, Starting February 7</span><sup>th</sup><span>)</span></p><p><span><br></span></p><p><span>(2</span><sup>nd</sup><span> round) </span><u>Day
