Experiencing Writer's Block? We Can Help! Having trouble understanding a writing assignment? The Writing Center is a tutoring space dedicated to helping UMBC students with writing in any class. The Writing Center offers one-on-one sessions that generally last between 30 minutes and an hour.

We work with students at any stage of the writing process, so you don’t even need to bring a finished paper along. If you’re having trouble getting started, bring us your assignment sheet and spend a few minutes talking about strategies for beginning with any of our experienced tutors. If you have an outline, we can help you expand and improve on that. If you’ve got a paper written and just want to be sure it makes sense to someone else, we can help with that, too.

Students from all disciplines are welcome to apply!! Students interested in becoming Writing Center tutors may submit materials to the Interim Writing Center Director, Ms. Elaine MacDougall, either by dropping them off at the Writing Center, delivering them to her mailbox on the fourth floor of the PAHB, or by emailing her at efick1@umbc.edu.   2. Bring a copy of your assignment to share with your tutor.
  3. Bring two copies of your draft, or have your writing available electronically. Make sure your device is charged.
  4. Prepare some questions you would like to ask your tutor about your assignment.
