We are excited to offer VIRTUAL Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training sessions to the UMBC community!

Mental Health First Aid is a 1-day skills-based training course designed to teach members of the UMBC community how to recognize signs of a mental health or substance use disorders, identify community resources and link people in crisis to the proper resources. The evidence behind the program shows  that people feel more comfortable managing a crisis situation and that it builds mental health literacy - helping the UMBC community identify, understand and respond to signs of mental  health challenges. 

The course will consist of a 2-hour self-paced introduction course online (completed independently before the course), followed by a live 7-hour virtual skills session with Mental Health First Aid instructors. You will learn a 5-step action plan and practice applying it throughout the skills section of the course.

You must complete the self-paced portion of the training BEFORE your live, virtual session.  If this is not done ahead of time, you will not be able to attend the virtual session.  

PLEASE REMEMBER, if you register to participate, you are committing to complete the self-paced modules AND attend the FULL 7 hours of live skills practice. Participants will receive a certificate marking their certification in Mental Health First Aid once they have completed the course requirements. This certification is active for 3 years and can be a great addition to your resume.
