    <div class="html-content"><div><strong><span>UMBC Arts and Culture Communications<span> </span></span><span>Internship (PAID)</span></strong><br></div><div><br></div><div><span>The Office of Institutional Advancement at UMBC seeks a part-time paid Arts and Culture Communications<span> </span></span><span>Intern</span><span><span> </span>who
     will take an active role in the promotions of arts and cultural events 
    for the university, alongside other staff who will also serve as 
    mentors.</span><br><br><span>UMBC
     presents more than 150 events annually in the arts, humanities and 
    social sciences, including performances, exhibitions, and lectures. The 
    primary focus of the position is promoting these events through updates 
    to campus-based and community partner websites; as well as assisting in 
    the strategic planning and execution of social media messaging and media
     pitches to promote these events and the event and achievement news of 
    students, faculty and alumni. For the interested<span> </span></span><span>intern</span><span>, writing editorial stories for UMBC News and/or UMBC Magazine is also an option.</span><br><br><span>The
     successful candidate will possess excellent written and verbal 
    communications skills; excellent organizational and time management 
    skills; and be comfortable working both independently and 
    collaboratively. A background or major in the arts, humanities or media 
    and communications studies is preferred.</span><br><br><span>Through this<span> </span></span><span>internship</span><span>, an ideal candidate will hone their writing skills and learn best practices in promotions messaging.</span><br><br><span>The
     position is open to undergraduate students enrolled at UMBC, to work up
     to a maximum of 20 hours per week. The rate of pay is $11/hourly. Work 
    location is in PAHB on an iMac and scheduling is to be determined with

<Title>Design the New Kinetic Sculpture for the Race in May 2019</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><p><span>INDS 430 Kinetic Sculpture Design Fall 2018 Mondays <span><span>7:10pm - 9:40pm</span></span></span></p><p><em><span> </span></em></p><p><span>Instructor:        Steven McAlpine</span></p><p><span>Phone:             410-455-5885</span></p><p><span>Email:              <a href="mailto:mcalpine@umbc.edu" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">mcalpine@umbc.edu</a></span></p><p><span>Office:              Fine Arts 002</span></p><p><span> </span></p><p><strong><span>A Brief Design History</span></strong></p><p><span>Version 1.0, <a href="http://www.kineticbaltimore.com/KSR/2015/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">The Kraken Upcycle</a>, won the <strong>Grand Prize</strong> at the Baltimore Kinetic Sculpture Race in 2015, qualifying the team to race in the national race in California.</span></p><p><span>Version 2.0, <a href="http://www.kineticbaltimore.com/KSR/2016/default.asp?Page=18" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">The Kraken Upcycle</a>, partnered with <strong>Zipcar</strong> in 2016 to upcycle their operator manuals into a beautiful sail and bribes. Kraken 2.0 won the <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lxL46SVjO5A" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">“<strong>Golden Flipper Award”</strong> in Lowell MA</a> for best water entry.</span></p><p><span>Version 3.0, <a href="http://www.kineticbaltimore.com/KSR/2017/default.asp?Page=8" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Kraken Calamari</a>, was a redesign based on this year’s “food” theme, including a checkered tablecloth, a kraken ketchup bottle, and giant onion rings.     <div class="html-content"><div><br></div><div>My name is Vrinda Deshpande, and I am the Executive 
    Vice President of the Student Government Association (SGA) for the 
    upcoming 2018-19 academic year.</div><div><br></div><div>For this upcoming year, we currently have several positions in our Executive Branch that are open for applicants until <span><span>August 17th</span></span>.
     The positions that are particularly relevant to Visual Arts are the 
    Coordinator of Photography and Videography, and the Coordinator of 
    Graphic Design. </div><div><br></div><div>Both positions receive 
    stipends, and are a fantastic way to connect SGA with UMBC’s arts 
    community (which is a connection that has been severely lacking in the 
    past).<br><br></div>There’s a more detailed outline of each position and
