ASIA300/DANC301 "Indian Dance" - M-W: 1-2:15PM  This course provides a basic introduction to Indian Classical Dance-Theater. We will broadly cover Indian classical dance styles practiced in post-colonial Indian subcontinent & the diaspora with focus on one classical dance form, Bharatanatyam. Students will learn the basics of this dance form, using hands, feet, body movement and facial expressions to tell stories. Finally, we will internalize all of this in a holistic blend of body, mind and intellect. Students will get an overview of East Indian culture, heritage, Hindu mythology and ancient Temple arts. The mid-term and final exam will be performance-based or a Long Paper.

At the Foundation's annual Gala, on Oct. 6th  2018 at the Modell-Lyric theater in Baltimore, the organizers are looking for an artist  to create a painting during the event itself. Archives Internship:

Our Library & Archives is seeking a Fall Intern to assist with creating metadata for 60 audio/visual recordings of lectures by art historians, collectors, and museum directors. Recordings also include exhibition audio tours and demonstrations by artists. The metadata will include descriptions of the recordings, subject headings, and permissions information. The Intern should expect to work 120 hours and the position will include a $1,000 stipend, through generous funding from the Frick Foundation.


Audio/Visual Internship

Our AV Technician is seeking a Fall Intern to assist with installing and researching AV equipment needed to carry out multimedia art and events hosted in the Museum’s Auditorium. The Intern should expect to learn how multimedia installations are implemented in an art museum setting and gain valuable hands on experience. This position may require occasional evening or weekend work.

Hi,

My name is Mike Barnett, a VFX Supervisor and indie film producer from New York. I run a boutique production company called Novelty Hat Productions. My producing partner is Kevin Davis, who runs Baltimore-based Visibly Shaken Productions.

I have a small SAG New Media shoot happening in Baltimore on 8/11 and 8/12 for a new sitcom pilot I am directing, that I need a few extra hands on set for. I was curious if there were any UMBC visual arts students who would be interested.

Ideally, this would be perfect for college students looking to get real hands on film production experience. It's a small scale indie project, but they will get the chance to meet, network with, and work alongside professional crew and actors. Every cast & crew member on the shoot is a working professional in the Film/ TV/ Commercial production industry; one of our producers is a two-time Emmy winner with decades of industry experience. I can additionally offer students internship credit should they want or need it.

The intern would gain experience in an award-winning design studio, contributing to projects that help advance UMBC’s mission and vision. This position would primarily focus on improving image searches in our archives by tagging photos using programs like Adobe Bridge and UMBC’s Box account. 

In addition to consistent work on the archives, the intern would be able to grow their own skills in concentrations like photography and design, assisting on projects as needed and as applicable to their skill set. 

The intern would be given guidance on best practices for photography, editing, and design. 

The position can work up to 10 hours per week (with a flexible weekly schedule), pays $12/hour, and works on location in Creative Services on a studio provided iMac. 

An ideal candidate will have photography experience and an interest in pursuing photojournalistic assignments and should be well versed in Adobe’s Creative Cloud suite of programs. Candidates would either be in the Visual Arts program or be working towards a major that focused on archiving or museum studies.

UMBC Marketing 

Interns will act as part time members of the staff, performing a variety of duties related to the production of video for both social channels and internal channels. In addition to learning how to film and edit fully produced video, interns will learn the need for accessibility in video, and learn about how the video production staff works with other campus communications entities (news, social media, alumni/development, recruitment, etc.). 
Interns will create a wide variety of content, within the consistency of the brand and tone of UMBC. Video interns will be specifically tasked with creating a story around the student experience through filming on weekend and at nights at student events. 
Interns will further be able to define the UMBC brand through the editing and final product of these student led videos. Some video filming or editing preferred, but not required. Storytelling, writing, or animation are other skills we seek for this position. 
Interns will work 8 hours a week split between campus events and at the Alumni House office, earning $11/hour.
