Iman Djouini

Iman Djouini b. Algiers, Algeria is a multidisciplinary artist who works in print media, digital fabrication, installation, photography, film and public art. She received a Master of Fine Arts in Printmaking from Tulane University and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting and Art History from The Maryland Institute College of Art. Her research-based practice explores the employment of language and design as tools for shaping perception. Recent works have looked into uses of symbols found in images, text, flags, textiles and data. She critically investigates theoretical frameworks like binary opposition, delineation and compartmentalization in contested cultural and political histories. Djouini is currently a professor of Art and Design at the Center for Art and Media at Goucher College and the Maryland Institute College of Art.  

Its that time of year again! We have over $15,000 in scholarships to give local students.

Deadline is January 15^th - in between semesters - but we need to make them aware of it now.

Last year we presented over $10,000 to local students pursuing advertising and communications degrees.

Scholarship winners/recipients came from:

• Towson University
• Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA)
• University of Maryland

And additional “achievement” awards came from

• University of Baltimore
• Anne Arundel Community College And
• MICA

And we have even more scholarship dollars to give away this year!

Over $15,000 currently – and we’re shooting for $20,000.

You must have some students that are candidates for scholarship money. It’s worth their effort – an online application… some samples… and a couple of reference letters.

This program includes two Visual Arts courses: ART329 Topics in Art History: Roman Visual Culture & ART369/392 Topics in Photography, Art, Media: Mobile Imaging in Italy, for a total of 6 undergraduate credits. Both courses engage the rich history and architecture of Rome by both analyzing and exploring it through new technologies and social media.

Both courses can be used to fulfill the following requirements:

• For the BA/BFA in Visual Arts, ART329 will fulfill requirements for the Art History portion of all VA concentrations

• For the BA/BFA in Visual Arts, ART369/392 will fulfill requirements for the Photography concentration or it can be used to count as an art elective in any of the other VA concentrations
• For Global Studies majors, the program fulfills the Study Abroad requirement
• Both courses can be used to fulfill requirements for general electives

For nearly twelve years, she was the director of educational and cultural programs at The Smithsonian Associates where she was responsible for over 1,500 educational programs annually. Today, in addition to her work with Bogash Consulting, she is also the Director of Performing Arts at the Jewish Community Center of Greater Baltimore as well as the Orchestra Manager at Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.
