<Title>Intern with the Baltimore Museum of Art</Title>

    <div class="html-content">The Baltimore Museum of Arts (BMA) is looking for an intern for this coming fall to work with the American Painting and Sculpture Department. The internship runs Oct 16th-Dec 15th and is hybrid, meeting 2-3 days a week working 15 hours a week. All BMA interns are awarded a $1000 stipend.<div><br></div><div>"The BMA's American Painting and Sculpture Department is seeking a Fall Intern to support research in 20th century American art, histories, and objects. This work will include examining the touch and tactility of painting, sculpture, textiles, ceramics, works on paper, and installation art.    The Intern will assist with research, documentation, and with building a bibliography. Their work will support a planned future reinstallation of the American Art galleries at the BMA that will reframe the canon of American art by focusing on works by women, Black, Native American, and other underrepresented artists that will also consider the impact of tactility and accessibility in museum presentations of artworks.     <div class="html-content"><p>Dear students:</p><p> </p><p><span>Please consider registering for this amazing asynchronous online course for Fall 2023! </span></p><p><span><span><br></span></span></p><p><span><span>If you’d like to <strong><u>create art</u></strong> at the same time as you study art history, this is the course for you!</span> For this Art History course (<span>ART350</span>), students will research and write about artwork by 20<sup>th</sup>-21<sup>st</sup> century Latin American artists, as well as have the option (not required) to create at least one work of art (such as painting, sculpture, fiber art, photography, animation, film, etc,) inspired by artists studied during the course. Students will have the option to create artwork, that is, respond visually to a Latin American artists' work of art, instead of only responding to that work by writing about it. We will explore the emergence of the Latin American aesthetic in art within the context of cultural nationalism by looking briefly at the 19th century and then focusing on artists active during the 20th and into the 21st century. We will study Latin America's indigenous and African heritage, its colonial past, as well as political and religious themes in Latin American art and their relationship to European and North American cultures. Students will become familiar with major artistic trends (such as Muralism, Constructive Universalism, and Neo-Concretism) and some major artists from Latin America. We will also explore why the distinct-and problematic-category of "Latin American" art has emerged in academia and the international art world.</span></span></p><p><span> </span></p><p><span>Students will also have the option (not required) to create at least one work of art (such as painting, sculpture, fiber art, photography, animation, film, etc.) inspired by the work of a 20<sup>th</sup>-21<sup>st</sup> century Latin American artist studied during the course.<br><span><br></span></span></p><p><span><span>This course is an </span><span><span>asynchronous online course</span>. </span></span><span> There is no time or date associated with the course. Thank you.</div><div><br></div><h5>Art 350<br>20th-21st Century Latin American Art</h5><div><br></div><div><span>This course examines a range of art forms from Latin American countries within cultural and historic contexts, focusing on artists active during the 20th and 21st centuries; studies Latin America's indigenous and African heritages and its colonial past from decolonizing perspectives; and explores major artistic trends (e.g., Muralism, Constructive Universalism, Neo-Concretism), as well as why the distinct -- and problematic -- category of "Latin American" art has emerged in academia and the international art world.</span></div><h4><span><br></span><span>Art 351<br></span><span>Feminist Vision: Art</span></h4><div><span>This course explores feminist theories and practices in the art world, focusing on artists from Europe, the U.S.A., and Latin America. We begin with the premise that in any era and culture where systems of inequality exist, there are always people who challenge, intervene, and change their societies. Thank you.</div><div><br></div><div>Visual Arts Department</div><div><br></div><div><span><span>Program Description:  </span>A four-week paid internship opportunity, May 30 - June 23, 2023.  A cohort of interdisciplinary students with a deep interest in artistic expression and issues related to race, social justice, and intercultural dialogue will devise an original theatrical presentation for Freshman Welcome Week 2023.  Inspired by their own intersectional identities, students will write, rehearse and film personal monologues about how they find belonging at UMBC, and cultivate a sense of belonging for others.  Participants receive an $1800 stipend and earn 3 credits of THTR 430 Theatre Internship.  Program Dates:  Tuesday, May 30 – Friday, June 23, 9:30 am - 4:30 p.m.  The program is conducted in-person &amp; on-campus; interns are required to attend all hours.  Enrollment is by application and interview.  Questions?  Contact </span><a href="mailto:ebmuson@umbc.edu" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">ebmuson@umbc.edu</a></div></div>
