Seems like some folks in Texas are itchin’ for a fight.(Surprise, surprise)
The fight this time is about security pat-downs at airports. Some Texas state representatives were so alarmed by the prospect of “invasive searches ” by the TSA at airports they decided to act.
They proposed an “Anti- Groping Bill”. HB 1937, a bill that would make it
“A criminal act for security personnel to touch a person’s private areas without probable cause as a condition of travel or as a condition of entry into a public place,”
This little protest created a big headache for airports and airlines. It appears the Federal government is not taking kindly to this little Texas tantrum. The sponsor of the bill Dan Patrick claims
TSA officials had warned him passing the bill “could close down all the airports in Texas,” which he regarded as a ‘heavy handed threat’ by the federal government.
Following a fiery debate in the Texas House , Senator Patrick (R-Houston) pulled the bill.
Some are still crying fowl, suggesting the Feds overreacted and employed unsavory intimidation to bully Texas politicians. They are calling this yet another example of government overreach going so far as to compare the battle against the TSA to the Texas revolutionary war against Mexico.
Seems like those folks in Texas are still in a fightin’ mood.
