Hillary Clinton said recently that the Arab news network “Al Jazeera” beats American news in that it’s “real news.”
In this spirit we thought we would bring you some news fresh from the middle east. Al Jazeera reported today that Quaddafi is clinging to his last breath of power (which is what our headline says, roughly translated). The article reports the dictator has no intentions of stepping down and will fight to the end.
Even though Tripoli is collapsing, Qaddafi still has the financial and logistical support to continue his fight against the rebels. In an address to Libya he warned “If the Americans or the West invade Libya, they must know that it will be hell, and more bloodbath like Iraq.”
The real power, or last bastion, in Libya is not Tripoli, the capitol, but Sabah. The city is still under Qaddafi’s control. It is a strategic location because from there Qaddafi can recruit mercenaries from Chad and Nigeria. Also, should the war not go his way, the dictator could easily flee to either of these countries.
Libya’s diplomat to the west said that Qaddafi and his sons would not surrender even if they were forced out of exile, adding that the only solution is the eradication of Qaddafi.
