In an annual poll done by Gallup, Mississippi ranked first among states where a majority of the population identifies as conservative. It was also the first (and only) state to exceed 50% in the survey’s three year history.
Vermont ranked first as the most liberal state but came in second overall to the District of Columbia, which doesn’t qualify as a state…because it isn’t one.
Overall, conservatives outnumber liberals in every state, Gallup says. In the nation’s capital, more D.C. residents identify themselves as liberals.
