Sexual assault on college campuses has been receiving a lot of attention lately, and one state has decided to take the lead to make a change.
California’s Gov. Jerry Brown just signed the nation’s first “yes means yes” law. This means silence or lack of resistance does not equal consent. Also, someone cannot give consent if they are drunk, drugged, unconscious or asleep.
Some have claimed this is the beginning of a paradigm shift from “no means no,” the popular phrase that suggests a firm rejection is required for an act to be considered sexual assault.
