Every time issues of race hits the news, many are outraged. But then there are those special few who shrug their shoulders and say “what’s the fuss?”

Even after the unfortunate events  in Ferguson, Missouri, they believe that there is no sound reason for racial tensions in this country.

The election of Barack Obama had them thinking America was now “post-racial.”

Although a good portion of the country knew this wasn’t true, they still cling to the notion.  

Sadly another recent incident of racial profiling has proven that prejudice and inequality are as healthy as ever. 

A little PDA in a pretty neighborhood led to the arrest of Daniele Watts, an actress who has appeared in movies like Django Unchained. The police arrived after getting a call from a neighbor, and they proceeded to question Watts about being a prostitute. When she refused to show identification, she was arrested.

From Watts’ Facebook:

 “Today I was handcuffed and detained by 2 police officers from the Studio City Police Department after refusing to agree that I had done something wrong by showing affection, fully clothed, in a public place.”

“When the officer arrived, I was standing on the sidewalk by a tree. I was talking to my father on my cell phone. I knew that I had done nothing wrong, that I wasn’t harming anyone, so I walked away.”

Her white boyfriend (in his words – the alleged “trick”) was not taken into custody.

The police are acting like they have no idea what happened. Sound familiar?

The saga of racial stereotyping and discrimination continues. The worst we can do is pretend it’s not there.
