If there’s one lesson Recep Erdogan ought to take from this weekend, it’s that clamping down on social media is easier said than done.

The Turkish prime minister has become known for his ties to corruption and authoritarian view on governance. He took things to a new level, though, by imposing a ban on Twitter in his country.

His plan seemed simple enough: cut off Twitter, and cut off a potential flow for allegations of graft.

Worried about the potential vice-grip on free speech in Turkey? Don’t be. Turkish citizens are still happily tweeting away—albeit in slightly more complicated fashion.

Just another victory for the right to tweet without encroachment. Let’s just hope Mr. Erdogan doesn’t go after Snapchat next.
