These days, Americans seem to regard their elected officials with a rather jaundiced eye. In light of the past few weeks, we would probably like to think that our politicians are all simply high on something.
As our friends up north would now tell you: be careful what you wish for.
Toronto mayor Robert Ford has been the subject of a months-long investigation involving his alleged drug use. Now, police claim to have a video of the mayor indulging in crack cocaine.
But we still ought to give Ford the benefit of the doubt. After all—as his attorney points out—anything could have been in the pipe Ford was allegedly smoking in the video.
We here in the good ol’ USA probably feel as if ours are the most dysfunctional politicos on the planet. But it appears that even in tranquil Canada, leaders’ reputations can quickly go up in smoke.
