Four choir members were stabbed at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church in Albuquerque this past Sunday. 24-year-old Lawrence Capener allegedly screamed “fake preacher!” and charged the choir after communion.
Unbelievable, right? Well, that’s exactly how the scene folded out. According to one witness,
“I noticed the suspect run up and, basically, start attacking the choir, so I ran over there immediately to go do what I could do to stop it.”
Members in the congregation were able to stop the man from causing extreme harm until police officers arrived. About 4,000 parishioners attend St. Jude Thaddeus each Sunday.
A teenage girl who sat behind the man during the service said he “was kind of twitchy, sketchy looking” and recalled a tattoo of an upside-down star on his wrist. Symbolism, anyone?
As Capener was handcuffed, eldery women began saying “God bless you” and “forgive yourself.” His response? “You don’t know about the Masons.”
Although the police do not yet have a motive behind the attack, Capener’s strange tattoo, talk of the Masons, and decision to stab a church choir is all too suspicious.
