Every 17 years the Mid Atlantic states are barraged with a plague of large ugly Cicada bugs.
These prehistoric looking creatures with their loud distinctive sound will emerge from their long slumber in the weeks ahead.
But we will be listening to another sound.
Daft Punk is back!
That’s right, the dynamic duo almost single handedly responsible for thrusting electronic music into the mainstream is back at it, gearing up for the release of their new album, Random Access Memories, on May 21st of this year.
Like the cicadas, Daft Punk has had a long gap between appearances. Sixteen years have passed since Daft Punk’s debut album, Homework, changed the music scene forever. Songs like Da Funk combined elements of techno, house, and disco music, giving birth to a whole new era of music and spawning subcultures of partying teens across the world.
Get Lucky (feat. Pharrell Williams). is the first single off of the new album, and certainly does not disappoint. Built on the same oh-so-catchy discotheque formula as hits like Around the World and Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger that made Daft Punk famous in the first place.
This release, however small in the grand scheme of things, could not have come at a more perfect time. In a world chock full of religious, racial, and regional tension, music stands as something that can raise peoples spirits.
