This is no toilet joke.
According to a new study published by Environmental Science & Technology, about sixty percent of the world does not have access to a flush toilet or equivalent.
That’s about 4.2 billion people (we know what you’re thinking — “holy crap.”)
What happens to these people without toilets? Hookworms, dysentery, cholera, hepatitis A, and severe (deadly) diarrhea, which causes more deaths than AIDS in Third World countries. Thankfully, brilliant minds from Caltech invented this solar-powered toilet last , costing users just five cents per day.
So the next time you take a bathroom great, be grateful that it’s a porcelain throne instead of a dirt hole.
