What is the most watched reality show that only airs every four years? Tonight’s Presidential debate. Mitt Romney is trailing in the crucial battleground states, while President Obama has a small lead in the polls. President Obama vs. Mitt Romney, of course they will talk about key issues such as the economy and the job market.
But will issues that effect college students be added to the conversation or will they focus on scripted zingers ? We all know one-liners like “more bang for your buck” or “the proof is in the pudding”, but how far will these phrases go in tonight’s debate?
Looking back on past Presidential debates, the one-liner “Zing Master”seems to be Ronald Reagan.
Ronald Reagan used the line “There you go again” in his debates with 1980 during his debate against Democratic President Jimmy Carter and against former Vice President Walter Mondale in 1984. He used this line to suggest that the opposite opponent was making a fictitious statement.
“Are you better off than you were four years ago?” Some analysts say that this is one of the most memorable one-liners which was used by Reagan’s debate against President Jimmy Carter as well. This line suggested that under the incumbent Americans were facing tougher times.
Tonight’s debate could possibly determine who will be our next President.
Will there be a clear discussion on issues that matter to you? Or will this be crafted around gotcha moments? The debate airs tonight at 9p.m., airing on YouTube, and the cable major news channels.
