There is an exciting opportunity for undergraduates to participate in a research fellowship at the University of Cincinnati during the summer of 2014. The Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP), a joint initiative of the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, is proud to train the next generation of physician-scientist leaders. The MSTP prepares students for a career in academic medicine, with a combined MD/PhD degree.
The Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) with the MSTP gives students and opportunity to explore the MD/PhD track. Fellows will spend approximately 10 weeks working on an independent research project in their areas of interest. They will also be paired with a physician to shadow; giving fellows a chance to combine the research and clinical sides of medicine. Fellows will be awarded a $4000 stipend.
As part of the MSTP program, fellows will have the opportunity to interact with current students and participate in professional development activities. Such workshops, including journal clubs and speaker series are designed to give fellows a better understanding of the training of an MD/PhD student. There will also be social activities for all summer fellows to participate in, getting to know one another and the dynamic city of Cincinnati.
Students like yours: creative, driven leaders, thrive in our program. Sophomore and junior level students are invited to apply. Applications from female and minority candidates are highly encouraged. Our online application is now open, the deadline for submission is February 16th.
