PAID Summer 2016 Research Opportunity Cancer Research at the Nathan Schnaper Summer Intern Program The Nathan Schnaper Summer Intern Program is accepting undergraduate student applications for a 10-week cancer research program which will take place at the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB). 

The students will work with faculty mentors to conduct research in cutting edge areas of basic, translational and clinical cancer research including targeted drug discovery, signal transduction, apoptosis and metastasis.

Students will receive a stipend of $4,000, as well as a travel stipend of $500.

  • Program Date: May 23-July 29, 2016
  • Application Deadline: March 1, 2016

Requirements: 
  • Cumulative GPA must be greater than a 3.0 
  • Strong letters of recommendation 
  • Must be US citizens or Permanent Residents

Research in Urban Water Sustainability
The Urban Water Innovation Network is giving 10 students an opportunity to perform research on urban areas. 

They will have the opportunity to work with mentors from the Mid-Atlantic, Southern Florida, Phoenix, Colorado, and California.

Students will receive a stipend of $4,000, plus housing. 

Students will: 
  • Complete an independent research project 
  • Attend a 3-day meeting at Colorado State University
  • Participate in workshops and seminars pertaining to research methods, statistics, scientific writing, ethics, and preparations for graduate school
  • Attend a Virtual Forum on Opportunities in Urban Water Research and Management
  • Give an oral presentation in an Urban Water Sustainability Research Symposium
  • Write a paper based on their summer research
Requirements: 
  • Students currently freshmen, sophomores, juniors or seniors who will still be undergraduates in Fall 2016
  • Must be US citizens or permanent residents

The nine-week research program will run from June 9 2016 to August 9 2016.

What kind of research will you do?

The topics range from the ecology and conservation of various organisms to GIS mapping of regenerating forests and behavioral ecology and climate impacts on declining amphibians. You can indicate an area of study that interests you the most (as part of the application process) so that you can be matched with a suitable mentor.

The Preservation Archaeology Field School in southwestern New Mexico will offer students an opportunity to learn excavation, survey, and analysis methods in a beautiful, remote, and archaeologically rich part of the American Southwest. The program will integrate research, education and preservation to investigate compelling questions about the past. 

This six-week program will provide undergraduate students an opportunity to test excavations at the Gila River Farm site in New Mexico. The program will primarily focus on how different earlier traditions have allowed people of various cultural background to live together, which includes questions such as how local plants and animals are used and how raw materials are obtained.

Mathematics department at Grand Valley State University invites eight students from across the country to participate in the summer research program. Areas of mathematics range from lottery voting, referendum elections, geometry and groups, graph embedding and data analysis.


Program Dates: 06/12/2016-08/07/2016

Application Deadline: February 19, 2016

Applicants will be notified by the end of March.

Benefits:
  1. $4000 Stipend
  2. Free on-campus housing
  3. $680 allowance on food

Eligibility:
  1. U.S Citizen or Permanent Resident
  2. Current full-time or part-time undergraduate student
  3. Letters of reference from two mathematics professors

Rutgers University in Newark is offering a 8-week summer research opportunity for undergraduates who are interested in the fields of environmental studies and environmental systems. 

The program involves multidisciplinary topics such as geophysics, urban geochemistry and urban ecology in northern New Jersey. 

Each scholar will choose an area of specialization and show students how the research experience relates to the urban research project, how the research affects real-life issues that affect them and their families and how they can pursue research careers stemming from this experience.

Lake Champlain Research Experience for Undergraduates The Rubenstein Ecosystem Science Laboratory in the University of Vermont is providing a 10-week research program for 10 undergraduate students. During the program the students will conduct research on the ecological and socioeconomic impacts of humans in the Lake Champlain ecosystem. 

Students will participate in an interdisciplinary cooperative model that promotes integrated thinking across disciplines within and between the natural and social sciences. 

The research is funded by the National Science Foundation, and all full-time undergraduate students with an anticipated graduation date after June 2016 are encouraged to apply!

Participants MUST be U.S citizens or permanent residents, and at least 18 years old before MAY 31, 2016.
