The site takes advantage of a vigorous multidisciplinary effort that involves near surface geophysics, urban geochemistry and urban ecology in northern New Jersey and especially, the New Jersey Meadowlands. Each scholar will choose one area of specialization but the research and support activities will be integrated to show students:

how their research experience relates to the whole urban research project,

how their research affects real-life issues that affect them and their families and

how they can pursue research careers stemming from this experience.

Research Areas (see the website for full project descriptions):

Near Surface Geophysics

The Near Surface Geophysics Group (NSGG) at Rutgers is engaged in research to develop emerging geophysical technologies for minimally invasive characterization and monitoring of urban environments.

Urban Geochemistry/Biogeochemistry

REU students will pursue research projects in the field of urban geochemistry/biogeochemistry in the polluted urban environment.
Researcher of the Week: Gabrielle Salib

<Tagline>Undergraduate researchers explore their interests!</Tagline>

Meet Gabrielle,

She is an Interdisciplinary Studies major and an Meyerhoff Scholar. Her future goal is to persue her Ph.D. and to continue her career in research. She would like to improve upon our understanding of the interaction that children have with technology and how to design their technology to accordingly better that interaction. On her off time she is also involved with the Computer Science Education club and the Orthodox Christian group.

Gabrielle's research explores the possibilities of three-dimensional (3D) printing technology and it's possible uses in the educational settings within the traditional curriculum. As part of a longitudinal study, her research team will be conducting weekly 3D modeling and printing workshops at a selected Baltimore school. By observing and recording the students’ reactions, collaborations, and frustrations while learning 3D modeling and printing in this setting, we will be able to observe benefits and repercussions of 3D modeling and printing in an educational setting.

Read more about her research here…
